Things to do if you are isolating at home due to Covid:

Hello everyone,

For this week, please make sure you complete: reading daily, play TT Rockstars and EdShed.

Maths:

In maths, please make a shape poster - include, name, properties, a drawing, sum of the angles eg angles in quadrilaterals add up to 360 degrees.

Also find out about the parts of a circle, draw circles and label them eg radius.

Literacy:

We are learning about poems this week.  Look at this link: How to perform poetry - BBC Teach

and play some of  the videos - then have a go at writing your own poem.

Science - we are learning about 'day and night'...can you write an explanation about day and night, using diagrams and scientific explanations.

Geography - make a poster all about North America - can you name the rivers, countries, mountains etc. What about famous landmarks?

PSHE - our dreams for the world. Think about the difficulties people face in the world - what do you dream about the world? Draw or write about your thoughts.

Forest School - sorry you will this this week - maybe you could make up another Native American game for us to play when you return to school.

Mrs Hatcher

Welcome to Phoenix 2021-2022!

Hello! I am Mrs Hatcher - the year five and six class teacher. Mrs Cockburn is our brilliant teaching assistant, who we are very lucky to have helping in our class this year.

As soon as the children arrive at school they complete a 'Quick Maths' challenge - this helps to build up our mental maths skills ready to apply to problem solving. It is vital that children arrive at school on time so they don't miss this important part of the day!

We spend our mornings focused on our literacy and maths and the afternoons are science or non-core subjects.

In Phoenix, we love reading and I love reading aloud to the class - this half term we are reading 'Holes' by Louis Sachar and we are going to complete lots of writing activities around the story. For science, we are learning about 'forces' and aim to complete lots of practical activities to learn more about them.

Things you can do to help your child to learn well in school:

  • encourage good organisation and have good routines in place
  • spend time reading together daily
  • ensure your child does their homework
  • enjoy conversations around any home activity or outing
  • be a curious role model

We hope you check this page frequently to keep up to date with the learning in Phoenix Class!
